ASU Math Camp

For all rising 6th - 12th graders

Math Camp - July 13-16, 2009

- Love Math - Hate Math - Fear Math - Catch on quickly
- Can't seem to catch on - Want a strong start in Math next year

Then Math Camp is for YOU!

What is Math Camp?

Math Camp is a social happening! Similar to a sports camp, we have teams and each team has an ASU student as a coach. We have hands-on activities, graphing calculators, computers, competitions, group interaction, prizes, snacks, fire-side chats (without the fire) and magic tricks that introduce algebra word problems. Also, real world problems will answer the question, "What is math good for?"

Where is it?

Located on the 3rd floor of Walker Hall on the campus of Appalachian State University on the corner of Rivers Street and Bodenheimer Drive.

What time is it?

Please note this is a Day Camp. On Monday, July 13th, 2009, parents and participants should arrive between 4:30 and 5:30 pm to register, and all stay for a meeting at 5:30 to answer questions and discuss procedures. Students check in every evening by 6:00 pm and check out at 9:00 pm promptly all four nights. For any student not checked in by 6:05, a follow-up call will be made to parents.

What is the cost?

The cost of the camp is $120 per student which includes instruction for 12 hours, limited accident illness insurance, certificates, awards, trophies, and snacks. Act now. Space is limited to 120 campers. Out of town families may take advantage of a special rate $49.99 + tax at Super 8 (828-264-4133) for the nights of Math Camp Monday- Thursday. So, sharpen your pencils, send in your registration, and we'll see you on Monday, July 13th, 2009!

NEW! Extended Math Camp

Twelve Math Camp participants will be invited to participate in an Extended Math Camp from 1:00-5:00 pm during the week of Math Camp. If you are thinking of teaching math as your career, have an aptitude for math, and a willingness to follow through with the extended linked activities in the following year, then this camp is for you! There is no extra charge for students selected to attend the Extended Math Camp.

For more information email Dr. Doug Jones or call 828-262-2862
