Why is the SAT so important?

The SAT measures verbal and mathematical reasoning abilities and these test scores are used to assist colleges in evaluating applicants. Many times, these scores are the determining factor in deciding admissions.

Who provides the instruction?

Appalachian Faculty from the departments of Mathematical Sciences, along with other educational professionals.

When and where will the SAT Preparation Course be offered?

The course will be held on the campus of Appalachian State University, Walker Hall, room 106.

Tues. & Thurs., 3/31 & 4/26-9pm
Saturday, 4/49am - 2:30pm (with a lunch break)
Tues. & Thurs., 4/7 & 4/96-9pm
Saturday, April 119am- 2:30pm (with a lunch break)

(Students should eat before arriving for the Tuesday and Thursday sessions and bring a snack. Students should bring a bag lunch for the Saturday sessions since time does not permit leaving the building.)

The ASU SAT Preparation Course for 2009 will meet over two weeks. The dates are Tuesday, March 31 and Thursday, April 2, from 6:00-9:00PM, and Saturday, April 4, from 9:00AM-2:30PM. The second week, the class meets Tuesday, April 7 and Thursday, April 9, from 6:00-9:00PM, and Saturday, April 11, from 9:00AM-2:30PM.

The spring SAT test will be offered in Watauga County on Saturday, May 2. To take the SAT exam, you must register by Tuesday March 31, 2009, directly through the sponsor, CollegeBoard (or register there by April 14 and pay a late fee).

What is the cost for the SAT Preparation Course?

Cost : $175

This fee covers 22 clock hours of instruction and the preparation textbook: The Official Study Guide for the New SAT, and other course materials.

Other helpful information

Please eat before arriving for the Tuesday and Thursday evening sessions, and bring a snack. Please bring a bag lunch for the Saturday sessions, as there will not be time to leave the building. Bring a calculator and dictionary for use during the sessions.

Cancellation Policy: Cancellations must be received in writing prior to March 23rd, 2009 in order to receive a refund (less $30 processing fee). No refunds after March 23rd, 2009. the Office of Conferences and institutes reserves the right to cancel this program (with full refund) in case of insufficient enrollment.

Parents: We wish to have only those students who want to be there. Please discuss this with your student as we reserve the right to send students home for inappropriate behavior. No refunds.
