Throws Clinic for High School Students
February 20th, 2010


Registration Dead-Line is Wednesday, February 3, 2010

Early Registration Only-No Walk-Up Registrations Will Be Allowed!


This clinic will involve:
  • Technique of the shot put and discus events
  • Specific training drills for each event
  • Sport specific strength and conditioning cycles
  • Tips on how to peak your performance for elite competitions
  • Easy tips on mental preparation involved with competition

When: February 20th, 2010
Times: 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. (registration begins at 8:30)
Where: Varsity Gym
Cost: $85 which includes clinic fee and insurance, lunch, handouts, and instruction (does not include hotel expense). Coaches may attend for a $60 fee (coaches who pre-register will receive an ASU Polo shirt.
Student-athletes are encouraged to bring their own discus, shot put, shoes, tape, etc. Parents/coaches are allowed to video tape any part of the clinic.

Javelin Throw

Athletes will be informed on technique, drills, strength training periods and sport specific strength programs.


Coach April Smith Appalachian State University's throws coach April Smith will be directing the clinic. She was named 2006 Female Throws Coach of the Year for the East Region. She has produced several all-conference and conference champions in the Southern Conference in the six years she has been at ASU. She has had two national qualifiers and one Olympic Trial qualifier. As an athlete, she was a nine-time All-American and three-time National champion in the throws.



Coach GreerA 2007 Graduate and 2008 Olympic Trial qualifier, Anthony Greer will be helping with the 2010 Fall Throws Clinic. He is the current ASU record holder in the shot put at 63' 7" and multiple time SoCon champion in the men's shot. During his time at Appalachian State, he received the ASU MVP and SoCon Field MVP . He is an NCAA Regional and National qualifier in the men's shot, placing 12th in the 2007 NCAA National Championships.
